What Do You Really Believe? Aligning Thoughts with Reality

Sometimes we act or speak a certain way, yet in our hearts, we hold a completely different set of beliefs.

And the tricky part - We often end up living out whatever it is we secretly believe, whether we want to or not.

My Journey to Motherhood

I’d like to share a personal story with you. On my path to becoming a mom, I experienced multiple miscarriages before having my first child. At one point, I was advised to go on bed rest. Rather than staying at home, I felt safer doing my bed rest at the hospital from my first trimester onward. It seemed like a solid plan: I’d have medical professionals around me 24/7, plus spiritual support since the doctors were also believers. Physically, I was doing everything “right”: eating well, taking my meds, and getting plenty of rest. When people called, I expressed how excited I was about my baby which was on the way. But inside, my mind was constantly at war.

Even though I did all the “right” things externally, my thoughts were telling a different story. While following doctors’ orders and praying for the best, I was simultaneously bracing myself for loss. In conversations, I’d leave little windows of doubt, “just in case”. I never allowed myself to picture what it would be like to finally hold my baby. Shopping for baby items or decorating a nursery was something I did not want to do so I will prevent myself from the heartache of having to take them all down (when I experienced the loss). My default was to prepare for the "when the loss will happen" (the worst) rather than anticipate a joyful outcome.

Whenever I noticed even the slightest sign of a potential miscarriage, I had no fight left in me. My mindset simply couldn’t handle the possibility of hope, so I’d give in to fear and the worst happened.

It was through this painful process that I realized something crucial: in the toughest seasons of our lives, our true beliefs come rushing to the surface.


The Power of Belief

Why does it matter so much what we think underneath it all? Because when challenges arise, your underlying beliefs often dictate your reactions and your capacity to persevere. My experience taught me that I could do everything right physically, but if my heart and mind weren’t on board, I’d struggle to hold on to hope.

We all know this all familiar scripture -

"As a man thinketh in his heart so is he" - Proverbs 23:7.

"Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it". - Proverbs 4:23

I could go with so many scriptures that instructs us to be careful of what we Think.

Plus, numerous studies on neuroplasticity shows that our thoughts can physically reshape and rewire our brains, shape our mindset and our abilities over time. This shows how powerful our thoughts are in shaping our health and well-being

Also, the placebo effect which is when a person experiences real improvements in their health simply because they believe a treatment will work even if the treatment itself has no active ingredients. This happens because expectation and belief can trigger physiological changes in the brain, such as releasing feel-good chemicals or reducing stress. This is also a powerful example of how our thoughts influence our reality!

As a driven mom who desires to thrive in the 5Fs - Faith, Family, Finances, Fitness and Friendships; it is important to pay VERY CLOSE ATTENTION to what you spend your time thinking about!

So, my question for you remains: What do you believe?

Do not answer right away, take a moment to really examine your thoughts and see if they match the words you speak or the actions you take.

I challenge you: Pay attention to that inner dialogue. Are you secretly planning for failure, or do you genuinely trust you can succeed? Because when all is said and done, you will often find yourself living out exactly what you believe.

We can claim one thing on the outside and yet harbor an entirely different narrative within. Most times, it is not what we do on the outside that shapes our reality but that inner story (that we do not share with anyone) shapes how we respond to adversity.

When life gets hard and it inevitably will your true beliefs will either become your greatest weapon or your biggest hindrance.

When it comes to your 5 F's - Faith, Family, Finances, Fitness and Friendships, if you believe you’re capable, worthy, and supported, you’ll find a way to keep fighting in your walk with God, home, career/business, wellness and your friendships. If you believe you are doomed to fail or unworthy of success, you might give up at the first sign of trouble - We do not want this!

Here’s the good news: we can intentionally shift our thoughts over time. We can learn to expect good outcomes, to take bold steps of faith, and to let our words and actions align with what we truly want.
